Custom Shortcuts

A desktop shortcut with a few launch options lets you start a mod in one click, play in a window, or pick a resolution the in-game menu doesn’t offer.

Create the shortcut

1. Open your game folder, usually C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142.

2. Right-click BF2142.exe → Send to → Desktop (create shortcut). On Windows 11, click Show more options first.

3. Right-click the new shortcut on your desktop → Properties.

4. In Target, add your launch options after the closing quote, separated by spaces. For example:

   "C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +widescreen 1

5. Leave Start in as the game folder, and click OK.

6. Rename the shortcut to something you’ll recognise, e.g. “BF2142 Remaster”.

Launch options

Options are case-sensitive, so type them exactly as shown, capital letters included.

Option	What it does
+menu 1	Starts the game at the main menu. Add it to every shortcut
+modPath mods/<MOD>	Starts a mod, where <MOD> is the mod’s folder name in Battlefield 2142\mods. The default is mods/bf2142
+fullscreen 1 / 0	Fullscreen, or 0 for windowed mode
+szx 1920 +szy 1080	Sets the resolution width and height, handy for resolutions the menu doesn’t list
+wx 0 +wy 0	Places the window at this position on screen, in windowed mode
+widescreen 1	Turns on widescreen. Add the Widescreen HUD fix too, so the HUD isn’t stretched
+joinServer <IP> +port <PORT>	Joins a server straight away. Add +password <PASSWORD> if the server has one

Caution

Only use resolutions your monitor supports, or the game may start with a black screen. If it does, remove +szx and +szy and try again.

Good to know

• Using BF2142 Hub? Its TURN ON WIDESCREEN option does the same as +widescreen 1, so you only need a shortcut for the other options.
• Project Remaster has its own Remaster Launcher that sets all of this for you.
• A mod won’t start? Check the folder name in +modPath matches the one in Battlefield 2142\mods exactly, and use forward slashes (mods/...).
• Running a dedicated server with a mod works the same way, see Host a dedicated server.
• The old auto-login options (+eaAccountName, +eaAccountPassword, +soldierName) were made for EA’s servers. Skip them, as they’d save your password in plain text.
