### (G) Graphics

<details>

<summary>G01: Running the game in windowed mode causes scaling issues or distortion</summary>

Related Article(s): [Apply OpenSpy patches](/getting-started/apply-openspy-patches)

Windows scaling settings can interfere with a game’s display due to non-functioning high DPI awareness.

**Symptom(s):**

* UI appears distorted, pixelated, or unreadable on modern high-resolution screens.
* UI looks oversized or bitmap-stretched.

**Solution(s)**

* Enable High DPI Aware ([A01](#a01-enable-high-dpi-aware)).
* Run the game once in fullscreen mode, then switch to windowed mode.

</details>

<details>

<summary>G02: Having weird graphics glitches like blackouts, see-through, inverted colors, or ghost objects</summary>

This usually happens because the old DirectX9 engine is trying to use anti-aliasing with a modern graphics card.

**Symptom(s):**

* See-through or x-ray visuals
* Ghost objects (e.g., invisible terrain or soldier units)
* Inverted colors
* Object blackouts

**Solution(s):**

* Turn off Anti-Aliasing ([A02](#a02-turn-off-anti-aliasing)).
* Delete Profile and Cache ([A03](#a03-delete-profile-and-cache)).
* Use a lower resolution and refresh rate. **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-1)[^1]**]**
* Disable High DPI Aware ([A01](#a01-enable-high-dpi-aware)).
* Reinstall the game.

Related Article(s): [Stuttering, mouse skipping & FPS cap](https://www.lost-soldiers.org/v2.php?site=forum_topic\&topic=81\&type=ASC\&page=2#bigNO)

This issue is likely tied to the game’s animation system or engine, not your mouse polling rate.

**Symptom(s):**

* Stutters when moving the mouse quickly or over a long horizontal distance
* Skipped frames during sideways movement

**Solution(s):**

* There’s currently no known fix.

</details>

### (C) Crashes

<details>

<summary>C01: Game crashes to desktop after a flashing black screen</summary>

BF2142 can run into issues on modern PCs, most commonly due to incompatible video modes or incorrect video settings.

**Symptom(s):**

* Crash after a brief black screen
* Crash before the intro or main menu appears

**Solution(s):**

* Delete Profile and Cache ([A03](#a03-delete-profile-and-cache)).
* Enable High DPI Aware ([A01](#a01-enable-high-dpi-aware)).
* Run the game in windowed mode.
* Use a resolution and refresh rate your monitor supports.&#x20;
* Use the <mark style="color:blue;">GameUX Fix</mark> tool in BF2142 Hub (Windows 7 only).
* Run the [Vidcon Fix](https://battlefield2142.co/bf2142_vidcon_fix.exe) ([#blackscreen](https://battlefield2142.co/faq/#blackscreen)).
* Follow the procedures in [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4Bur6pjBXA).
* Reinstall the game.

</details>

<details>

<summary>C02: Game crashes when adjusting audio settings</summary>

Crashes often occur when you have over 9 input audio devices. Tools like VirtualCable or Voicemeeter that add multiple inputs are common culprits.

**Symptom(s):**

* Game crashes when adjusting in-game audio settings
* Game crashes when joining a match, sometimes with a brief audio beep beforehand

**Solution(s):**

* In <mark style="color:blue;">Control Panel</mark> → <mark style="color:blue;">Sound</mark> → <mark style="color:blue;">Recording</mark>, disable unused input devices. Keep active inputs under 10.
* In <mark style="color:blue;">Device Manager</mark>, uninstall unused input audio interfaces; keep active under 10.
* Uninstall apps that add many inputs (e.g., VirtualCable, Voicemeeter).
* Set <mark style="color:blue;">Audio Renderer</mark> to <mark style="color:blue;">Software</mark> and <mark style="color:blue;">Enable EAX</mark> to <mark style="color:blue;">No</mark> in-game.

* Install OpenSpy patches manually ([A05](#a05-install-openspy-patches-manually)).

</details>

### (A) Common Actions

<details>

<summary>A01: Enable High DPI Aware</summary>

If you’re fixing scaling for the game, apply it to `BF2142.exe`. For the Hub, apply it to `BF2142 Hub.exe`.

* Game: `C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142`
* Hub: `C:\Program Files (x86)\BF2142 Hub 2`&#x20;

Steps:

1. Right-click the `.exe` → <mark style="color:blue;">Properties</mark> → <mark style="color:blue;">Compatibility</mark> → <mark style="color:blue;">Change high DPI settings</mark>.
2. Check <mark style="color:blue;">Override high DPI scaling behavior</mark> and set it to <mark style="color:blue;">Application</mark>.
3. Click <mark style="color:blue;">Apply</mark> and <mark style="color:blue;">OK</mark>.

Notes:

* You’ll need to repeat these steps each time you click <mark style="color:blue;">Install</mark> in the Hub. **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-3)[^3]**]**
* To disable High DPI Aware, uncheck <mark style="color:blue;">Override high DPI scaling behavior</mark> in step 3.

</details>

<details>

<summary>A02: Turn off Anti-Aliasing</summary>

There are two ways to do this:

* Turn off <mark style="color:blue;">Anti-Aliasing</mark> in-game.
* Use the <mark style="color:blue;">Anti-Aliasing Off</mark> tool in BF2142 Hub.

Notes:

* If you’re not having issues, you can set <mark style="color:blue;">Anti-Aliasing</mark> to <mark style="color:blue;">4x</mark>.
* If you must turn it off but still want smoothing, force Anti-Aliasing via your NVIDIA or AMD control panel instead.

</details>

<details>

<summary>A03: Delete Profile and Cache</summary>

This resets your profiles — including any faulty video or audio settings — and clears the shader cache.

There are three ways to do this:

* Delete the `Battlefield 2142` folder in `C:\Users\...\Documents`.
* Use the <mark style="color:blue;">Clear Cache</mark> and <mark style="color:blue;">Delete Profile</mark> tool in BF2142 Hub.
* Use the <mark style="color:blue;">Clear Cache</mark> and <mark style="color:blue;">Reset Game-Settings</mark> tool in the Remaster Launcher.

</details>

<details>

<summary>A04: Install the registry files</summary>

{% hint style="danger" %}
If your game was installed via EA App or Origin, reinstall the game instead and do not use this method.
{% endhint %}

1. Download the registry file [here](https://www.regfiles.net/registry/battlefield-2142-registry).
2. Adjust the <mark style="color:blue;">PATH</mark> and <mark style="color:blue;">CDKEY</mark> before downloading.
3. Open the file in a text editor and set:
   * <mark style="color:blue;">Version</mark> to `1.51`
   * <mark style="color:blue;">BuildNr</mark> to `1.10.77.0`
4. Save, then double-click the file to install.

We're actually huge fans of nostalgia and really enjoy helping new players install the game the classic way.

Sure, it might take a few extra steps compared to a super quick setup, but by doing it this way, you get to experience the full, original interface and gameplay.&#x20;

From there, you can dive in, create, or join games just like you would have back in the day. It's all about reliving that authentic BF2142 experience!

<summary>Why are there so many steps?</summary>

We get it — getting an older game up and running can sometimes feel like a bit of a puzzle, and there are definitely a few spots where things can go sideways. That's exactly why we take the time to walk you through each and every step!

We want to make sure you understand what's important and provide solutions for any common issues you might run into. Our goal is to give you the best possible chance of getting everything working smoothly, right from the start.

And hey, we've actually just updated the site to make the whole process even simpler and more streamlined for you. So, while there might be a few steps, we've done our best to make it as easy as possible!

</details>

[^1]: Heads up for multiplayer fans! Most players are hanging out on Reclamation servers, and those are completely unmodded. So, if you're planning to join in on the action there, you'll need to make sure you launch your game without any mods enabled. Keep it vanilla for those battles!

[^2]: The Remaster mod brings a whole new level of awesome to the game! It packs in high-quality textures, super realistic animations, and even some brand-new weapons to enhance your Battlefield 2142 experience. Get ready for a fresh look and feel!

[^3]: Good news! With the Remaster Launcher, you can effortlessly switch between playing with mods and playing the unmodded version of the game whenever you feel like it. It makes trying out different experiences super easy!

<summary>Can I play this game on Mac?</summary>

There is a Mac version, but it was built for PowerPC and isn’t compatible with modern macOS.

If you want to play on a Mac, your best options are:

* Run Windows in a VM (e.g., [VirtualBox](https://www.virtualbox.org/) or [VMWare](https://www.vmware.com/products/desktop-hypervisor/workstation-and-fusion))
* Use [Boot Camp](https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/bootcamp-assistant/welcome/mac) to install Windows

If you’re set on a native Mac build, you’ll need to do some serious Googling!

## Procedures

{% hint style="success" %}
If you enjoy our work, please give us a 5-star rating or share a few kind words [here](/others/feedback)!
{% endhint %}

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Download the game setup from [Downloads](#downloads) → [Standard Edition v1.01](#standard-edition-v1.01).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Create a new folder on your desktop.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Open the `.rar` or `.zip` file with your [file archiver](#user-content-fn-2)[^2].
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Drag and drop everything from the `.rar` or `.zip` file into your new folder.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Find `setup.exe` in that folder and double-click it to start the installer. **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-3)[^3]**]**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
When prompted by <mark style="color:blue;">User Account Control</mark>, click <mark style="color:blue;">Yes</mark> to allow the installer to make changes on your device.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Follow the setup wizard to complete the installation — there are a few important notes along the way, so keep an eye out for those. **\[**[**TL;DR**](#user-content-fn-4)[^4]**]**

* If you see a popup saying <mark style="color:blue;">This game has only been tested on WinXP(32bit)</mark>, just click <mark style="color:blue;">Confirm</mark>. **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-5)[^5]**]**
* When prompted for a serial code, use one of these [<mark style="color:blue;">Standard Edition</mark>](#user-content-fn-6)[^6] keys to continue. [**\[?\]**](#user-content-fn-7)[^7]

* It’s recommended to install the game to the [default path](#user-content-fn-8)[^8], but you can choose a different location if you prefer.
* For the best experience, install the <mark style="color:blue;">English version</mark> to take advantage of the <mark style="color:blue;">HD English fonts</mark> included with [Project Remaster](/advanced/project-remaster).
* Feel free to skip BattleCammo setup by clicking <mark style="color:blue;">Cancel</mark>. **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-9)[^9]**]**
* Select <mark style="color:blue;">No, install GameSpy Comrade later</mark> to skip GameSpy Comrade setup. **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-10)[^10]**]**
* When asked to register an EA account, just click <mark style="color:blue;">REGISTER LATER</mark> to move on. **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-11)[^11]**]**
* None of the multiplayer servers use PunkBuster anti-cheat anymore, so you can safely skip installing it.
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}
Once the installation finishes, close the wizard but *don’t launch the game just yet*. **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-12)[^12]**]**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Next, make sure to [patch the game to v1.51](/getting-started/download-and-install-v1_51-patch) — *don’t skip this step*! **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-13)[^13]**]**

## Downloads

<details>

<summary>Important Notes</summary>

* If you’re new to the game, we recommend sticking with the *Standard Edition*, since our tutorials are designed specifically for that version.
* It doesn’t matter which edition you start with — once everything is patched up, they’ll all be the same.
* If you have any concerns about the sources, consider installing an anti-virus beforehand or downloading the base game from a source you trust — it’s important that you feel comfortable with the process.
* Keep in mind, this isn’t an official way to get the game. Unfortunately, aside from buying a second-hand copy (which no longer allows you to log in), this is one of the few remaining options available.

**Battlefield 2142 Retail DVD**

The only way to obtain the game “legitimately” these days is by buying a *second-hand* retail DVD. Keep in mind, though, that used copies often come with product keys that are already activated or expired. While this might seem to defeat the purpose of spending money, nostalgia is a great reason to support a classic like this.

If you really love the game and have a bit of extra cash, we encourage you to pick up a physical copy. You might be surprised — many dedicated fans still own their original discs, some dating back to 2005! As we always say, we’re true Battlefield lovers, and that’s exactly why we created this website.

Amazon, eBay, and local used video game stores are usually the best places to look for second-hand games like this.

* Be sure the listing specifically mentions that the manual is included, since the serial code needed for installation is printed on the back cover of the manual.
* If possible, check before buying that the disc edition matches the manual edition — mixing them up can prevent you from installing the game.
* And don’t forget — you’ll need a DVD-ROM drive to run the disc.

{% embed url="<https://www.amazon.com/Battlefield-2142-Deluxe-PC/dp/B000YJ3TR8>" %}

{% embed url="<https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=battlefield+2142>" %}
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

[^1]: Good news! You don't actually need a dedicated graphics card to play this game. Your Intel Integrated Graphics should be powerful enough to run it smoothly. So, no need to worry about fancy hardware here!

[^2]: e.g., WinRAR, 7zip, WinZip, File Explorer (Win 11)

[^3]: Make sure to use `setup.exe` as the installer — not `Autorun.exe`. If you run `Autorun.exe`, the installation won’t work and you’ll just keep getting prompted to insert the game disc.

[^4]: When asked for a serial, use: <mark style="color:blue;">E6HH-DWUG-U8X1-R8F0-1911</mark>. Continue the game setup until the installation is completed – do not download GameSpy Arcade and do not register to EA servers.

[^5]: You can safely ignore this warning. The game works perfectly fine on most Windows versions.

[^6]: Just a quick note: these serial keys only work with the Standard Edition setup. If you’re using a different version, these keys won’t apply.

[^7]: Currently, there’s no mechanism on either the master server or multiplayer servers to prevent users with the same serial key from connecting.

[^8]: i.e., `C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142`

[^9]: BattleCammo is a VoIP service for in-game voice chat, but you probably won’t need it.

[^10]: GameSpy Comrade was a community gaming app for friends, stats, and messaging, but it no longer works since [GameSpy shutdown](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GameSpy#Shutdown) in June 2014.

[^11]: EA Master Server is offline due to the [GameSpy shutdown](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GameSpy#Shutdown) in June 2014.

[^12]: Since the game isn’t updated, trying to launch it will prompt you to insert the disc. This happens because the patch removes the disc check — without the update, the game still looks for the original disc before starting.

[^13]: If you skip updating to the latest version, the game won’t launch and will keep asking for the disc. Here’s why: the patch removes the disc check, so without it, the game can’t start properly.

[^14]: Although you cannot choose a language during the installation process, you can still make use of the Remaster Launcher to make a language switch later on. To gain access to the launcher, you will need to [install the Remaster mod](/advanced/project-remaster/install-project-remaster).

# Install v1.51 patch

Stay ahead: How to update BF2142 to the latest version.

In this tutorial, we're going to guide you through all the steps to get your game updated to the very latest version. If you hit any snags or have questions, hop into our [Discord](https://discord.gg/7SBMKRy6q9) — we’re always happy to help!

<details>

<summary>Why is this patch needed?</summary>

* DRM[^1] is officially removed — you no longer need the game disc to launch the game. For more info, see the [No-CD Patch](https://tweakguides.dmegaming.com/BF2142_4.html) section in Tweak Guide.
* Enjoy a more immersive field of view and easier multitasking with widescreen support
* Northern Strike expansion is now included for free. This marks a final farewell to the game, as DICE has moved on to Battlefield 3 and beyond.
* This patch unlocks the game’s final features, bug fixes, and extra content.
* Most current master servers (like OpenSpy), game servers (such as Reclamation), and popular mods (like Project Remaster) require v1.51.

</details>

<details>

<summary>How do I check the game version?</summary>

If you’re ever unsure about your game’s version, just check the version string in this file:\
`C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\mods\bf2142\Mod.desc`

If you still need the disc to launch the game, that means you haven’t updated to v1.51 yet.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I skip this patch?</summary>

You can skip this if your game is already updated to version 1.51. But, if it's not and you skip this, you won't be able to play because the game will still need the disc to start. That’s why we always stress how important this step is!

This installer will update your game to the latest version (v1.51), no matter which version you currently have — whether it’s v1.00, v1.01, or v1.50.&#x20;

Unlike the official updater, which only works incrementally, this installer skips all the intermediate steps, making the update process much simpler and more user-friendly.

{% hint style="danger" %}
You might see virus warnings when launching this installer. If you’re concerned about file safety, you can use the incremental installer mirrored from EA instead.

<summary>Why is BF2142 Hub necessary?</summary>

BF2142 Hub is a super useful tool that lets you install OpenSpy patches with just one click! You'll need these patches to get past the login screen, see servers, and play online. We'll dive deeper into how master servers work in the [next tutorial](/getting-started/apply-openspy-patches), but for now, just know these patches are key!

This tool also has a bunch of troubleshooting and diagnostic features, which are awesome for fixing video problems, crashes, and other issues. Seriously, we can't recommend installing BF2142 Hub enough – it's not just for the patches, but also for all those handy resources.

<summary>Can I install OpenSpy patches without BF2142 Hub?</summary>

Great question! [Here](/help-centre/troubleshoot#a05-install-openspy-patches-manually) is how!

While you *can* technically install OpenSpy patches without BF2142 Hub, we really don't recommend it. The OpenSpy servers might change their IP addresses, and if that happens, you could lose your connection.

BF2142 Hub always makes sure you have the latest patch, so you'll stay updated and keep playing smoothly, no matter what changes!

<summary>OpenSpy</summary>

[OpenSpy](https://openspy.net/) is an open-source alternative to [GameSpy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GameSpy#Shutdown), built to work perfectly with all GameSpy-supported games. For Battlefield 2142, the main community using the OpenSpy master server is the Reclamation group.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Master Server</summary>

Master Server handles your login details and soldier data, shows you available game servers in your browser, and gets updates from those servers about player progress. OpenSpy is a perfect example of a Master Server that brings online services to games like Battlefield 2142!

</details>

<details>

<summary>OpenSpy Patches</summary>

When GameSpy shut down in 2014, BF2142's original online services went with it. But don't worry! OpenSpy patches redirect your game to use the OpenSpy master server instead, which means you can log in and play online again!

</details>

<details>

<summary>OpenSpy Alternatives</summary>

Yep, there are a few others out there, like [NovGames](https://novgames.ru/), and [PlayBF2142](http://play2142.ru/). But honestly, OpenSpy, especially with the Reclamation community, is the most reliable and active one you'll find. Plus, BF2142 Hub makes it super easy to switch between OpenSpy and NovGames if you want to try them out!

</details>

<details>

<summary>Project Reclamation</summary>

Project Reclamation is a community-driven effort focused on bringing Battlefield 2142's online features back to life!&#x20;

It uses the OpenSpy platform to recreate that master server experience GameSpy originally offered. Basically, Reclamation servers connect directly to the OpenSpy master server, making it super easy for you to find and jump into games, just like in the good old days!

<details>

<summary>Reclamation Community</summary>

<figure><img src="/files/1AXIX3HTFaIL6cARyaHX" alt="" width="563"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

The Reclamation community is still going strong! There are both EU and US servers, and the English-speaking community is super active on [Discord](https://discord.com/invite/MEwBW9U).

Reclamation EU usually gets busy starting around 6 PM GMT, and Reclamation US picks up around 12 AM GMT. Weekends are even more active than weekdays during these times! You can jump into various game modes like Conquest, Conquest Coop, and Titan **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-1)[^1]**]**.

To join in on the fun:

* First, make sure you've installed OpenSpy patches using BF2142 Hub.
* Then, install the Reclamation Map Pack (or any maps currently running on the server) through BF2142 Hub.

Once you've done that, just jump in and you'll find a welcoming and active community ready to play!

</details>

<details>

<summary>Gadgets &#x26; Unlocks</summary>

Connecting to OpenSpy is a real privilege — you get all the unlocks as soon as you create a new soldier. As long as you're online, you'll have access to everything in both singleplayer and multiplayer modes. That makes it perfect for grinding against bots in a Conquest Coop game!

Also, take a look at the [Addons / Tweaks](/advanced/addons-tweaks) section — you might find something that interests you!&#x20;

[^1]: If you’re in fullscreen, the game may blink or resize a few times — that’s normal.

[^2]: Server requests can take a few seconds to process — most master servers are in Europe or the U.S. A response within 10 seconds is perfectly normal.

[^3]: One important thing to note from the <mark style="color:blue;">TERMS AND CONDITIONS</mark> is that your password is stored remotely in plain text, so just be aware of this when creating your account.

[^4]: Most of the information you enter isn’t actually relevant, so it’s fine to use false details. Since master servers store your account data in plain text, it’s best to use a simple password (like `123456`).

[^5]: OpenSpy now lets you reset your password and manage your account at <https://account.openspy.net/login> (use Partner Code 20 - EA).

    When registering, use a valid email address so you can access these features. It's ok to use a fake email address if you're pretty sure that you won't forget your password.

[^6]: Try different entries for <mark style="color:blue;">ACCOUNT NAME</mark> or <mark style="color:blue;">EMAIL ADDRESS</mark> as they may have been previously used by other accounts.

    Other less common causes include using an invalid country code, postal code, birthdate format, or entering non-standard characters in any of the fields.

[^7]: The resolution glitch occurs because the game creates a new set of profiles for you, which only include the default resolution settings. In Battlefield 2142, the resolution can actually be different before you log in and after you log in.

[^8]: Choosing the wrong resolution or refresh rate is the most common reason for game crashes.

[^9]: You can have it set to <mark style="color:blue;">4x</mark> if you don't encounter any issues with it.

[^10]: For some users, leaving Anti-aliasing enabled can cause strange graphical glitches, like being able to see through buildings. This usually happens because the old DirectX9 engine tries to handle anti-aliasing on modern graphics cards.&#x20;

    To fix this, simply turn off anti-aliasing in the game settings, and if you want anti-aliasing, use your NVIDIA or AMD control panel to apply it for your specific graphics card.

<summary>Important Notes</summary>

* For Reclamation or any vanilla servers, use a clean vanilla BF2142 setup — no addons or file tweaks in `\mods\bf2142`.&#x20;
* To join Reclamation servers, you’ll also need to [install their map pack](/getting-started/install-map-pack).
* For modded servers, install the exact same mod and files the server is running.

</details>

### Joining a LAN Server

A local server is a game server that shows up in your local server browser and can be accessed by anyone on your LAN network.

<details>

<summary>Server is not showing up in the local server browser</summary>

First, make sure you’re connected to the same LAN network as the server host. If you still can’t find the server in the local server browser, even when it’s running, try this:

1. Click <mark style="color:blue;">ONLINE</mark> in the game.
2. Go to the <mark style="color:blue;">ADVANCED</mark> tab and click <mark style="color:blue;">CONNECT TO IP</mark>.
3. Enter the server’s local IP address (usually something like `192.168.x.x`) and click <mark style="color:blue;">OK</mark>. The server host can find their local IP on the loading screen after launching the server **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-1)[^1]**]**.

#### **Why this is happening ?**

If your PC has multiple network adapters (e.g., from Hamachi, VirtualBox, VMware, ExpressVPN), the game may pick the wrong one for multiplayer.

#### How to fix this ?

Disable adapters you’re not using and keep only the one(s) needed. **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-2)[^2]**]**

1. Go to <mark style="color:blue;">Control Panel</mark> → <mark style="color:blue;">Network and Sharing Center</mark> → <mark style="color:blue;">Change adapter settings</mark>.
2. Right-click the adapter you want to disable → <mark style="color:blue;">Disable</mark>.

If you can’t disable it via UI, use <mark style="color:blue;">PowerShell</mark> (Run as Administrator):

* Disable: `Disable-NetAdapter -Name "Adapter Name"`
* Enable: `Enable-NetAdapter -Name "Adapter Name"`

Do this first on the server computer, then on any computers trying to connect. This should help your LAN server show up in the local server browser!

</details>

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Select <mark style="color:blue;">MULTIPLAY</mark> → <mark style="color:blue;">LOCAL</mark>.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
In the <mark style="color:blue;">JOIN</mark> tab, click <mark style="color:blue;">UPDATE LIST</mark> until the LAN server appears.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Once it shows up, double-click the server to join.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Joining a Public WAN Server

A public server is a game server that shows up in the online server browser and can be accessed over the Internet.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Click <mark style="color:blue;">MULTIPLAY</mark> → <mark style="color:blue;">ONLINE</mark>.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
In the <mark style="color:blue;">ADVANCED</mark> tab, uncheck all the filter options and click <mark style="color:blue;">UPDATE LIST</mark> **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-3)[^3]**]**.

<div align="left"><figure><img src="/files/OyJR081UB8mUyK42H2sg" alt="" width="375"><figcaption></figcaption></figure></div>
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
You should now see a list of public servers. Double-click one to join and play.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Joining a Private WAN Server

A private WAN server is a game server that doesn’t show up in the online server browser, but you can still access it over the internet if you have its public IP address.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Click <mark style="color:blue;">MULTIPLAY</mark> → <mark style="color:blue;">ONLINE</mark>.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
In the <mark style="color:blue;">ADVANCED</mark> tab, click <mark style="color:blue;">CONNECT TO IP</mark>.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Enter the server's public IP address and adjust the [port number](#user-content-fn-4)[^4] if needed.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Click <mark style="color:blue;">OK</mark> to connect.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

[^1]: If you’re using a VLAN or VPN, make sure to enter your VLAN or VPN IP address — not your regular local IP (from router) that connects you to the internet.

[^2]: If you’re connecting over a VLAN or VPN, keep both your main internet connection (Wi‑Fi or Ethernet) and your VLAN/VPN adapters enabled.

[^3]: If you don't, you'll see no multiplayer servers showing up in the list.

[^4]: 17567 is the default port.

# Host a server

Be the host: How to set up your own BF2142 server.

In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to host a simple server directly from the game. If you hit any snags or have questions, hop into our [Discord](https://discord.gg/7SBMKRy6q9) — we’re always happy to help!

While this method is quick and easy, there are a few limitations:

* You’ll have fewer game settings to customize. **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-1)[^1]**]**
* The person hosting the server must also be playing on it.

For a full-featured, production server, you’d want to use a [dedicated server](/advanced/dedicated-server/install-server). However, this quick setup is usually enough for most situations.

{% embed url="<https://discord.gg/7SBMKRy6q9>" %}

<details>

<summary>Important Notes</summary>

* You only need port forwarding if you want your server accessible over the internet (WAN), and only the host needs to set it up. **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-2)[^2]**]**
* Disable unused network adapters; keep only the one(s) you’ll host on (details below).
* When prompted by Windows Firewall, allow the game (or BF2142Unlocker) on both Private and Public networks to avoid connection issues.
* For WAN servers: LAN players at home join via your local IP; friends elsewhere join via your public IP — assuming port forwarding is configured correctly.
* If you launch the game with a mod, any server you host will also be modded.

</details>

<details>

<summary>LAN Over Internet</summary>

If port forwarding isn’t feasible but you still want to play online with friends, a VLAN is your best option.

Apps like [Hamachi](https://vpn.net/), [GameRanger](https://www.gameranger.com/), or [Radamin VPN](https://www.radmin-vpn.com/) create a secure virtual network that simulates a LAN. Typically, you and your friends just:

* Install the app and create accounts
* Create or join a room to connect to the same LAN
* Use the IP address assigned by the app to host or join a server

For setup details, refer to the app’s documentation or resources.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Disabling Network Adapters</summary>

If your PC has multiple network adapters (e.g., from Hamachi, VirtualBox, VMware, ExpressVPN), the game may pick the wrong one when hosting.

To fix this, disable adapters you’re not using and keep only the one(s) needed for hosting. **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-3)[^3]**]**

1. Go to <mark style="color:blue;">Control Panel</mark> → <mark style="color:blue;">Network and Sharing Center</mark> → <mark style="color:blue;">Change adapter settings</mark>.
2. Right-click the adapter you want to disable → <mark style="color:blue;">Disable</mark>.

If you can’t disable it via UI, use <mark style="color:blue;">PowerShell</mark> (Run as Administrator):

* Disable: `Disable-NetAdapter -Name "Adapter Name"`
* Enable: `Enable-NetAdapter -Name "Adapter Name"`

</details>

<details>

<summary>Port Forwarding Troubleshoots</summary>

* If you configure port forwarding after the server is running, restart the server for changes to take effect.
* If port forwarding is set up correctly but others still can’t connect, your ISP may be using CGNAT (Carrier-Grade NAT), which blocks port forwarding. Contact your ISP to opt out.
* Alternatively, host a LAN server over a VLAN so friends can still join and play together.

</details>

### Hosting a LAN Server

A local server is a game server that shows up in your local server browser and can be accessed by anyone on your LAN network. This option is perfect for hosting a game night with family at home, or for playing with friends over the internet using a virtual LAN tool.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Disable any unused network adapters (see the [expandable](#disabling-network-adapters) above).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Select <mark style="color:blue;">MULTIPLAY</mark> → <mark style="color:blue;">LOCAL</mark>.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
In the <mark style="color:blue;">CREATE</mark> tab, configure your server settings and click <mark style="color:blue;">START SERVER</mark>.

Check out the [Server Settings](/advanced/addons-tweaks/server-settings) guide for details on extra cutomization settings.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
While the server is launching (on the loading or briefing screen), you’ll see your server’s local IP address displayed.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Hosting a Private WAN Server

A private WAN server is a game server that doesn’t show up in the online server browser, but friends can still join if they know your public IP address. This is a great option for hosting a game night with friends, without needing any virtual LAN tools.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Close the game if it’s running.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Disable any unused network adapters (see the [expandable](#disabling-network-adapters) above).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
In your home router’s control panel, forward these ports to your device's local IPv4 address:

* `29900` (UDP or Both) - Login Service
* `17567` (Both) - Game Service

If you’re using BF2142Unlocker, make sure to also enable these two extra ports:

* `8085` (TCP or Both) – Unlock Service
* `18300` (TCP or Both) – Login Service

You may refer to [this guide](https://www.noip.com/support/knowledgebase/general-port-forwarding-guide) on how to perform port forwarding.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Visit [whatismyip.com](https://www.whatismyip.com/) to find your public IPv4 address, and share it with your friends.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Log in to the game.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Select <mark style="color:blue;">MULTIPLAY</mark> → <mark style="color:blue;">LOCAL</mark>.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
In the <mark style="color:blue;">CREATE</mark> tab, configure your server settings and click <mark style="color:blue;">START SERVER</mark>.

Check out the [Server Settings](/advanced/addons-tweaks/server-settings) guide for details on extra cutomization settings.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Hosting a Public WAN Server

A public server is a game server that appears in the online server browser and can be accessed by anyone on the Internet. Since your server will be visible to everyone, random players can join your game.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Close the game if it’s running.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Disable any unused network adapters.

Refer to the expandable above for details on how to do so.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
In your home router’s control panel, forward these ports to your device’s local IP address:

* `29900` (UDP or Both) - Login Service
* `17567` (Both) - Game Service

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Open File Explorer and go to `C:\Users\<YOU>\Documents\Battlefield 2142\Profiles`.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Open `Global.con` with a text editor.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Find the line starting with `GlobalSettings.setDefaultUser`. If its value is `0001`, open the folder named `0001`.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Inside that folder, open `ServerSettings.con` with a text editor.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Find the line `GameServerSettings.setInternet 0` and change the `0` to `1`. Save the file.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Go to [whatismyip.com](https://www.whatismyip.com/) to find your public IPv4 address and share it with your friends.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Log in to the game.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Select <mark style="color:blue;">MULTIPLAY</mark> → <mark style="color:blue;">LOCAL</mark>.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
In the <mark style="color:blue;">CREATE</mark> tab, configure your server settings and click <mark style="color:blue;">START SERVER</mark>.

Check out the [Server Settings](/advanced/addons-tweaks/server-settings) guide for details on extra cutomization settings.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Your server should now appear in the online server browser.

To check if everything is set up correctly, press `Esc` in-game and go to the server browser — your server should be listed there.

If port forwarding isn’t set up properly, your server will still show up in the list, but others won’t be able to join.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

[^1]: What I mean is that while you’re limited in how many settings you can tweak through the in-game GUI, you still have access to most server settings — you’ll just need to adjust them by editing the game’s files directly.

[^2]: If you’re hosting your server over a VLAN, there’s no need for port forwarding — it works just like a regular LAN setup.

[^3]: If you’re hosting over a VLAN or VPN, keep both your main internet connection (Wi‑Fi or Ethernet) and your VLAN/VPN adapters enabled.

    These virtual adapters usually have higher priority, so your server will often bind to them by default. Not sure which one is in use? Open <mark style="color:blue;">Command Prompt</mark> and run `ipconfig` — the adapters listed first typically have higher priority.

## Follow-ups

If you hit crashes, startup issues, or graphics glitches, use the troubleshooting and diagnosis tools in the launcher or the Hub. The offline manual in the launcher also has helpful fixes.

New to the mod or modding? We’ve got some manuals packed with helpful info, so it’s definitely worth setting aside a little time to check them out!

* [Remaster Manual](/advanced/project-remaster/further-readings)
* [Tweak Guide](/advanced/project-remaster/further-readings)
* [Modding Wiki](https://classic-battlefield-modding.fandom.com/wiki/Classic_Battlefield_Modding_Wikia)

Also, take a look at the addons and tweaks section in the sidebar navigation — you might find something that interests you!

[^1]: Battlefield 2142 is a 32-bit game and can only use up to 4GB of RAM. The 4GB RAM Patch helps prevent memory overflow crashes and improves stability.

[^2]: We need to disable this option because the OpenSpy patches from BF2142 Hub already include this fix by default.

# Offline Rewards

This patch emulates the ranked server rewards system — pins, ribbons, badges, and medals — in your singleplayer or LAN coop games. It’s a great quality-of-life improvement that makes bot grinding much more fun. Imagine earning a bunch of medals in one game — it’s pretty satisfying!

In vanilla, earning medals or badges was tough since many required things like 150 hours played or 300 EU team wins — goals you can’t reach in a single round. To fix this, we’ve reworked the rewards system and requirements to better suit a quick co-op games:

* Titan mode rewards have been removed.
* Requirements that were impossible to achieve are now gone.
* Most rewards can now be earned within about 15 minutes of play.

# ReShade & Shaders

Reshade adds a layer of shaders to the game, giving the visuals a big boost. It was first used in Project Reality for BF2 and has since been adapted for BF2142 as well.

The original post about **Reshade for BF2142** by the Project Remaster Team is here:&#x20;

{% embed url="<https://www.moddb.com/downloads/bf2142-reshade>" %}

However, that version is outdated. The team now uses a newer Reshade client and has updated shader presets. The latest Reshade package for BF2142 is included with the [Project Remaster](/advanced/project-remaster/install-project-remaster) v14 installation. In this guide, we’ll also cover how to install ReShade if you don’t have the mod.

<div><figure><img src="/files/08jBE8o7UVGPy6vzCmuU" alt=""><figcaption><p>Breakthrough at Remagen</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/26dlJAFpTVTvLkMwkgL2" alt=""><figcaption><p>Street</p></figcaption></figure></div>

### Installation

<details>

<summary>Already got the Remaster mod installed?</summary>

Activating Reshade is super easy with the mod's launcher, simply:

1. Open your <mark style="color:blue;">Remaster Launcher</mark>.
2. Head to the <mark style="color:blue;">Settings</mark> tab.
3. Check the <mark style="color:blue;">Reshade</mark> option.
4. That’s it — you’re all set!
5. Jump straight to the [Usage](#usage) section to see how to use ReShade in-game.\
   *(You don't have to follow any steps below.)*

To uninstall, just uncheck the <mark style="color:blue;">Reshade</mark> option. It’s that simple!

</details>

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Download the patch from [Downloads](#downloads).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Extract all the files to the folder where your `BF2142.exe` is located — by default, that’s usually `C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142`.&#x20;

Overwrite any files.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
If you installed the game somewhere other than `C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142`, you’ll need to manually update all the paths in `d3d9.ini` using a text editor to match your setup.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Usage

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Launch the game.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
As soon as you reach the intro or login screen, you’ll notice the visual effect right away.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Press <mark style="color:blue;">Shift + F2</mark> to open ReShade in-game tool. This button lets you toggle the tool on or off.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
On the <mark style="color:blue;">Home</mark> tab, check if the preset has loaded — you should see shaders like Levels.fx and Vignette.fx listed.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
If the page is empty, the shaders are not loaded yet. You should:

1. Go to the <mark style="color:blue;">Settings</mark> tab and enter the correct paths:
   1. Effect search path: `C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\reshade-shaders\Shaders` (or wherever your setup is)
   2. Texture search path: `C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\reshade-shaders\Textures` (or wherever your setup is)
2. Then return to the <mark style="color:blue;">Home</mark> tab and click <mark style="color:blue;">Reload</mark>. The preset should load properly now.
3. Also, in the <mark style="color:blue;">Home</mark> tab, check that the preset path in the dropdown menu points to the correct location: `C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\DefaultPreset.ini` (or wherever your setup is).
   {% endstep %}

{% step %}
By default, you can toggle the Reshade effect with the <mark style="color:blue;">Scroll Lock</mark> key, but you can change this key bind using the in-game tool. I would recommend setting it to <mark style="color:blue;">Shift + F1</mark>.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
If you want to adjust the shaders, just go to the <mark style="color:blue;">Settings</mark> tab and enable <mark style="color:blue;">Configuration Mode</mark>. Then, return to the <mark style="color:blue;">Home</mark> tab to tweak the parameters however you like.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
You can create a new preset by clicking the <mark style="color:blue;">+</mark> button next to the dropdown menu in the <mark style="color:blue;">Home</mark> tab. There are two presets **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-1)[^1]**]** — `DefaultPreset` and `DefaultPreset2` — that you can select from the dropdown.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
If you notice any graphical glitches, try turning off the LUT on certain maps.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Remarks

* ReShade only works on Windows 7 or newer.
* ReShade applies to all mods, including vanilla 2142.
* ReShade can be easily uninstalled by just deleting the files you added.
* ReShade has been tested in multiplayer — you won’t get kicked for using it.

# Widescreen HUD

When BF2142 first launched, it only supported 4:3 displays. Even though the v1.51 patch from EA added native widescreen support (which mostly just stretches the image horizontally), the game’s HUD still looks off on 16:9 resolutions.&#x20;

Thanks to the Project Remaster Team for creating a widescreen HUD fix for BF2142 that properly resizes HUD elements for widescreen displays. This fix is included with the [Project Remaster](/advanced/project-remaster/install-project-remaster) v14 installation, and in this guide, we’ll also show you how to install it if you don’t have the mod.

<div><figure><img src="/files/rjdnyYsF6ZPvPtktgsHc" alt=""><figcaption><p>BEFORE</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/YiItcBiPICfGqrdvTBvD" alt=""><figcaption><p>AFTER</p></figcaption></figure></div>

### Preparations

* Do you know where your game directory is? It’s the folder with `BF2142.exe` and your `mods` — by default, usually at `C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142`.
* If you want the changes for vanilla BF2142, edit the file in `\mods\bf2142`. For a specific mod, edit the file in that mod’s folder instead.

### Procedures

<details>

<summary>Already got the Remaster mod installed?</summary>

To activate Widescreen Hudfix for your Remaster gameplay:

1. Open your <mark style="color:blue;">Remaster Launcher</mark>.
2. Go to the <mark style="color:blue;">Settings</mark> tab.
3. Check both the <mark style="color:blue;">Widescreen Fix</mark> and <mark style="color:blue;">HUD-fix</mark> options. **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-1)[^1]**]**
4. That’s all you need to do — you’re good to go! \
   *(You don't have to follow any steps below.)*

If you ever want to uninstall, simply uncheck those two options. Then, head over to the <mark style="color:blue;">Help</mark> tab and click <mark style="color:blue;">Clear Cache</mark>. That’s it — super simple!

</details>

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Download the patch from [Downloads](#downloads).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Extract the two files inside: `Menu_server_hudfix.zip` and `Shaders_client_hudfix.zip`.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Drag and drop both files into your `\mods\<MOD>` folder.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Copy `ClientArchives.con` and rename it to `ClientArchives_o.con` as a backup.

Open `ClientArchives.con` with a text editor.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
At the head of the file, add this line **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-2)[^2]**]**:

```batch
fileManager.mountArchive Shaders_client_hudfix.zip Shaders
```

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Save the file.

If you’re unable to save your changes, try dragging the file to your Desktop, make your edits there, and then drag it back when you’re done.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Copy `ServerArchives.con` and rename it to `ServerArchives_o.con` as a backup.

Open `ServerArchives.con` with a text editor.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
At the head of the file, add this line **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-3)[^3]**]**:

```batch
fileManager.mountArchive Menu_server_hudfix.zip Menu
```

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Save the file.

If you’re unable to save your changes, try dragging the file to your Desktop, make your edits there, and then drag it back when you’re done.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
If you launch the game using a shortcut, make sure that `+widescreen 1` is included in the <mark style="color:blue;">Target</mark> field. See [here](https://www.moddb.com/tutorials/how-to-install-and-start-any-bf2142-mod-universal-tutorial-with-pictures) for details.

If you’re using BF2142 Hub, just check the <mark style="color:blue;">TURN ON WIDESCREEN</mark> option.

For Remaster Launcher users, be sure to enable the <mark style="color:blue;">Widescreen fix</mark> in the <mark style="color:blue;">Settings</mark> tab.

# Add More Bots

A lot of BF2142 players want more bots—16 just isn’t enough! Modern PCs can easily handle 64+ bots for a much more immersive experience. If you love bot grinding, you’re in good company. Here’s how to increase the number of bots in your game.

* You’ll be editing the `\mods\...\AI\AIDefault.ai` file, so it’s smart to make a backup first — just copy the file and add something like `_o` to the filename. **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-1)[^1]**]**

### Procedures

<details>

<summary>Already got the Remaster mod installed?</summary>

In the launcher, head to the <mark style="color:blue;">Settings</mark> tab, adjust the <mark style="color:blue;">Bot-Settings</mark> as needed, and then click <mark style="color:blue;">Apply</mark>. *(You don't have to follow any steps below.)*

</details>

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Inside the `AI` folder, open `AIDefault.ai` with a text editor.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Look for the line `aiSettings.setMaxNBots 16` near the top of the file.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Change the number to however many bots you want — for example, `aiSettings.setMaxNBots 32` for 32 bots.

Keep in mind that **\[**[**...**](#user-content-fn-2)[^2]**]**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Make sure to set `aiSettings.maxBotsIncludeHumans` to 0. **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-3)[^3]**]**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Put `aiSettings.overrideMenuSettings 1` before the line with `aiSettings.maxBotsIncludeHumans 0`. **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-4)[^4]**]**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Your file should look something like this around lines 9–12:

```batch
aiSettings.overrideMenuSettings 1
aiSettings.maxBotsIncludeHumans 0
aiSettings.setMaxNBots 32
aiSettings.setBotSkill 1.0
```

{% endstep %}

{% step %}
You can also adjust the bot skill — set `aiSettings.setBotSkill` to any value between 0 and 1 (higher means tougher bots).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
If you want to allow more AI-controlled weapons like UAVs, sentry guns, and drones on the map, set `aiSettings.setMaxNAutoControllers` to a higher value.&#x20;

The default is 64, which is usually enough, but you can safely increase it to over 100 if needed.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
Once you’re done, just save your changes!

If you’re unable to save your changes, try dragging the `.ai` file to your Desktop, make your edits there, and then drag it back when you’re done.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Remarks

* When you launch the game and select a map, it might still show 16 bots — but if you’ve edited the file correctly, you’ll get the numbers right.
* Everything is case sensitive — spelling mistakes or wrong capitalization can crash the game!
* If you host a server with this tweak, your server will have more bots, and players who join won’t need to change anything.
* If it doesn’t work after editing, try copying the default content below into your `AIDefault.ai` file, then start all over again from step 1.

<details>

<summary>Default Content of <code>AIDefault.ai</code></summary>

```batch
echo *****************************************************************************************
echo AIDefault.ai ****************************************************************************
echo *****************************************************************************************
aiSettings.setNSides 2
aiSettings.setAutoSpawnBots 1
aiSettings.setMaxNAutoControllers 256
aiSettings.maxBotsIncludeHumans 1
aiSettings.setMaxNBots 16
aiSettings.setBotSkill 0.4
rem To spawn more than 15 bots in SP, use the following lines instead of the three lines above.
rem Note that this is totaly unsupported, it will affect your system's performance
rem and may even crash your game. That being said, you will most likely be able to run a lot
rem more bots than 15 on your system.
aiSettings.maxBotsIncludeHumans 0
aiSettings.setMaxNBots 32
aiSettings.setBotSkill 1.0
endrem
run BotNames.ai
[^2]: Adding too many bots can cause performance drops or crashes on low-end PCs. Don’t go overboard — a good starting point is around 48 bots.
[^4]: Doing this allows the game to override the normal 16 bot count.
# Unlimited Sprint
If you’re getting used to the new Battlefield’s play style, you might find BF2142’s limited sprint a bit frustrating. Unlimited sprint is really just about convenience — some players see no reason not to have it. So, let’s mod BF2142 to give ourselves unlimited sprint too!
### Preparations
* Do you know where your game directory is? It’s the folder with `BF2142.exe` and your `mods` — by default, usually at `C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142`.
* If you want the changes for vanilla BF2142, edit the file in `\mods\bf2142`. For a specific mod, edit the file in that mod’s folder instead.
* You’ll be editing the `\mods\...\Objects\Soldiers_server.zip` file, so it’s smart to make a backup first — just copy the file and add something like `_o` to the filename. **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-1)[^1]**]**
### Procedures
{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Inside `Soldiers_server.zip`, open the `EU` or `PAC` folder and edit the `.tweak` files.&#x20;
For example, to modify the EU heavy armor soldier, open `\us\US_HEAVY_SOLDIER.tweak` with a text editor and make your changes like this:
```batch
ObjectTemplate.SprintRecoverTime 1
ObjectTemplate.SprintDissipationTime 100
ObjectTemplate.SprintLimit 0.1
ObjectTemplate.SprintLossAtJump 0.10
```
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Increase `SprintDissipationTime` to give yourself a bigger buffer before sprint runs out, and lower `SprintRecoverTime` so sprint refills quicker.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
You can also adjust `SprintLimit` and `SprintLossAtJump` if you want, but the first two settings are usually enough.
`SprintLimit` sets the minimum sprint bar needed before you can sprint again, while `SprintLossAtJump` controls how much sprint bar you lose when you jump.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Save your changes.
If you’re unable to save your changes, try dragging the `.zip` file to your Desktop, make your edits there, and then drag it back when you’re done.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Don’t forget to make the same changes to `Soldiers_bp1_server.zip` if you plan to play on Northern Strike maps.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}
### Remarks
* Revert your changes before joining Reclamation or any multiplayer servers, unless the server explicitly allows or uses this mod.
* If you host a server with this tweak, players who join will also need to make this change.
* To uninstall the fix, simply undo the changes you made.
# Field of View
Unlike modern Battlefield games, BF2142 doesn’t let you adjust your FOV in-game. Many players find the default field of view too low, so this guide will show you how to change it to whatever you prefer!
<div><figure><img src="/files/PtFSNtFYEgXYlXskKLu1" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>1.1</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/Da9KzYPOLQEtySKW2nVn" alt="" width="563"><figcaption><p>1.5</p></figcaption></figure></div>
### Procedures
{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Inside `Soldiers_server.zip`, open the `Common` folder and edit the `SoldierCamera.tweak` file using a text editor.&#x20;
Here are the lines we want to tweak, along with their default values:
```batch
ObjectTemplate.worldFOV 1.1
ObjectTemplate.insideFOV 1.1
```
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
You can set the value as low as `0.65` to mimic BF P4F’s FOV, or as high as `1.85` for an ultra-wide view  — but keep in mind, the game doesn’t look great with extreme settings.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
According to illicitSoul on ModDB, a value of `1.1` gives you about 60-65 FOV, while `1.6` is roughly 90-95 FOV. So, a good starting point is by changing `1.1` to `1.5`.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Save your changes.
If you’re unable to save your changes, try dragging the `.zip` file to your Desktop, make your edits there, and then drag it back when you’re done.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}
### Remarks
* Revert your changes before joining Reclamation or any multiplayer servers, unless the server explicitly allows or uses this mod.
# Maps with Bots
If you’re a Battlefield fan who loves playing with bots, you’ve probably noticed that the standard map selection can get old fast. A lot of us wish there were more vanilla maps with bot support — or even the chance to play classic BF2 or 1942 maps in BF2142.
Maybe you’re looking for maps loaded with vehicles, or ones designed just for epic walker or tank battles. In this guide, I’ll show you where to find these custom maps and share some top recommendations to help you build the ultimate collection.
### GetBF2142
You’ll get a few maps from the Reclamation Map Pack that we’ve fixed or tweaked for a better experience. These maps are mostly custom maps or maps from another Battlefield series.
{% tabs %}
{% tab title="Street" %}
Street is a BF2 community map by spfreak that’s now been ported to BF2142 with solid bot support, making it a blast to play. Set in a Middle Eastern town, the map features a linear layout of control points and plenty of urban cover for intense street battles.
{% embed url="<https://drive.google.com/file/d/13KGr74VHJZ0cEUhrWTj0lILPQYoCEedl>" %}
#### **What's changed ?**
* The ghost car (a broken object that could get players stuck) has been removed.
* Control points and spawn points have been renamed for clarity.
#### Acknowledgements
* Full credit goes to spfreak and TGW for porting the map from BF2 to BF2142.
* You can find the original version in the Reclamation Map Pack.
  {% endtab %}
{% tab title="Desert Storm" %}
Set in a wide-open desert, Desert Storm gives off strong BF1 Sinai Desert vibes right from the start. Every control point is packed with vehicles, making it perfect for large-scale tank and walker battles. With solid bot support, this custom map is a lot of fun to play on.
{% embed url="<https://drive.google.com/file/d/1R4RM4BgTphDS1MHi7UOybneauD9Fd_IN>" %}
#### What's changed ?
* The sky brightness and color saturation have been fixed, giving the map a more Belgrade-like atmosphere that’s much easier on the eyes.
* Vehicle spawns have been adjusted — now you’ll see more walkers, tanks, and AGs, so most of your bots can hop into a vehicle and join the action.
#### Acknowledgements
* Full credit goes to Jeff & Robin (if I’m not mistaken), the creators of the map.
* You can find the original version in the Reclamation Map Pack.
  {% endtab %}
{% tab title="Victory Village" %}
Victory Village is a well-known map from Battlefield: Heroes, now adapted to work in vanilla BF2142 with decent bot support. While it’s playable, there are still a few quirks.
Originally, [Victory Village 2142](https://www.moddb.com/games/battlefield-2142/addons/na16686) with bot support was released by [yone](https://www.moddb.com/members/yone) on ModDB, but it often crashed on newer versions of the game. Later, [matthysjordaan](https://www.moddb.com/members/matthysjordaan) published [Victory Village (Fixed)](https://www.moddb.com/addons/victory-village-fixed), which loads properly but dropped bot support. We’ve combined both versions and added our own tweaks to bring this map back for Conquest Coop.
{% embed url="<https://drive.google.com/file/d/16tQTpHsVWRzDdANgcCxDBuu5PWxNt3Qi>" %}
#### What's changed?
* Bot support has been restored.
* Buggy spawn points that caused bots to die instantly have been removed.
* Unnecessary load files / dependencies have been cleaned up.
* Both team bases are now uncapturable, and the three central control points start neutral.
#### Acknowledgements
* Full credit goes to [yone](https://www.moddb.com/members/yone) and [matthysjordaan](https://www.moddb.com/members/matthysjordaan) for porting the map from BFHeroes to BF2142.
* The original versions are available on ModDB and in the Reclamation Map Pack.
  {% endtab %}
{% tab title="Sharqi Peninsula" %}
Sharqi Peninsula is a classic Middle Eastern map from Battlefield 2, known for its iconic construction site control point. Now, it’s been ported to BF2142 with fixes to make bot support playable.
{% embed url="<https://drive.google.com/file/d/11TrHvUL2v9573yHqbN0KtgP07KTkg-5>\_" %}
#### What’s changed ?
* The crash when loading into singleplayer or co-op has been fixed by swapping out BF2 vehicles for BF2142 alternatives.
* The sky lighting has been adjusted, so the map no longer looks overly dark.
Keep in mind, bot support is still a bit buggy — bots can struggle with stairs at the final control point — but the map is definitely playable.
#### Acknowledgements
* Full credit goes to TGW for porting the map from BF2 to BF2142.
* You can find the original version in the Reclamation Map Pack.
  {% endtab %}
{% tab title="Operation Amos" %}
Operation Amos is a popular Chinese map from Battlefield 2, now ported to BF2142 with improvements for playable bot support.
{% embed url="<https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Hn28cacrI1D5QX2d6ACmf1PpD1yp70Ue>" %}
#### What's changed ?
* The crash when loading into singleplayer or co-op has been fixed by swapping out BF2 vehicles for BF2142 alternatives.
* The broken bridges between the middle control points have been repaired, so bots no longer get stuck in the water and can return to land.
Keep in mind, bot support is still a bit buggy — bots can struggle with vehicle use at the final control point — but the map is definitely playable.
#### Acknowledgements
* Full credit goes to BF:A Ha-Knomboe Boy and TGW for porting the map from BF2 to BF2142.
* You can find the original version in the Reclamation Map Pack.
  {% endtab %}
{% tab title="Wall of Jericho" %}
Wall of Jericho, known as Great Wall in BF2, is a classic Battlefield map set in China.
{% embed url="<https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WvAlmqDOlT1_tBm_sbnMqbJsC7hxF6VK>" %}
#### What's changed ?
* The crash when loading into singleplayer or co-op has been fixed by swapping out BF2 vehicles for BF2142 alternatives.
* Bot support has been added by bringing over AI and pathfinding files from the original BF2 version.
Since the map features a walled city, bots aren’t always smart enough to find their way in or out, so they can get stuck inside. Bot support is just okay, but the map is still playable — and it’s a great spot for taking screenshots with your favorite rifles!
# Server Settings
In-game settings are pretty limited — singleplayer only lets you adjust rounds per map and bot skill. LAN mode offers more, like ticket ratio, friendly fire, and team ratio. But what if you want those options in singleplayer too, or want to change things like man down time and the number of players needed to start?
In this tutorial, we’ll cover how to make all these settings configurable for both singleplayer and multiplayer (LAN). There are several ways to do this, each with its own trade-offs. Just choose the method that works best for you and follow the steps.
### Option 1
**Editing ServerSettings.con in \Profiles\Default**
Whatever you set in `ServerSettings.con` will override any in-game adjustments.&#x20;
For example, if you set the ticket ratio to 100 in the .con file but use the in-game slider to set it to 300, the game or server will still use the value from the .con file.
Note that any changes you make with this method will apply to all mods.
{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Go into your `C:\User\<YOU>\Documents\Battlefield 2142\Profiles\Default` folder.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Open `ServerSettings.con` with a text editor.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Edit your game settings as needed. Do not add new settings. `GameServerSettings.ANYTHING` is not the same as `sv.ANYTHING`.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Save the changes.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Now, here's the most important part...
1. Right-click on the `ServerSettings.con` file and select <mark style="color:blue;">Properties</mark>.
2. At the bottom, check the <mark style="color:blue;">Read-Only</mark> option, then click <mark style="color:blue;">Apply</mark> and <mark style="color:blue;">OK</mark>.
   {% endstep %}
{% step %}
You might wonder why we need to set the `.con` file to read-only instead of just editing it and leaving it as is.
The reason is that BF2142 can be pretty buggy when reading server settings — if you don’t make the file read-only, the game will often overwrite your changes every time you start, and your edits won’t stick. \[[Reference](https://classic-battlefield-modding.fandom.com/wiki/Changing_Ticket_Counts)]
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}
### Option 2
**Editing GameLogicInit.con in \mods\\\<MOD>**
This is the preferred method: just add the settings you want to override to `GameLogicInit.con` — usually the ones you can’t change in-game. For anything you can adjust in-game, just leave it out of this file.&#x20;
The only downside is you might forget what you’ve added, so if you no longer need certain flags, make sure to remove or comment them out.
Just be aware that changes made with this method are specific to each mod only.
{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Go into your `...\mods\<MOD>` folder. **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-1)[^1]**]**
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Open `GameLogicInit.con` file with a text editor.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Append the server settings that you want to the end of the file.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Save the changes.
If you’re unable to save your changes, try dragging the `.con` file to your Desktop, make your edits there, and then drag it back when you’re done.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
If you don’t need certain settings anymore, just add `rem` at the start of the line to comment it out. For multi-line comments, use `beginrem` and `endrem` to enclose the section you want to disable.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}
# Frostbite Chat
A lot of Battlefield fans love the BF3/BF4-style chat — it really adds a modern feel to the game and makes chatting more enjoyable. Now, we’re bringing that same great chat experience to BF2142, so everyone can enjoy the sleek, updated chat right here in 2142!
<div><figure><img src="/files/uR740VVpjsMohw7vlceR" alt=""><figcaption><p>Player View</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/YofJlqNQNHAGGmrQ7rFs" alt=""><figcaption><p>Commander View</p></figcaption></figure></div>
### Preparations
* Do you know where your game directory is? It’s the folder with `BF2142.exe` and your `mods` — by default, usually at `C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142`.
* If you want the changes for vanilla BF2142, edit the file in `\mods\bf2142`. For a specific mod, edit the file in that mod’s folder instead.
* Before installing this addon, make sure you’ve already installed the [Widescreen Hudfix](/advanced/addons-tweaks/hudfix) for your chosen mod. If you’re using the Remaster mod, enable the <mark style="color:blue;">HUD-fix</mark> option in the <mark style="color:blue;">Remaster Launcher</mark> before adding this addon.
### Procedures
{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Download the patch from [Downloads](#downloads).
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Follow the steps in the `README.txt` file to install the addons.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
If you have any questions or run into any issues, feel free to join our [Discord](https://discord.gg/DaMVNknVnV) server.
# BF2142Unlocker
Once you’re familiar with the game, you might want to see all server lists, join games quickly, or host your own master server with full unlocks and stats offline. BF2142Unlocker does all this for you — no manual patching needed. Just launch it and use the straightforward interface to join, switch servers, or host games with ease.
<div><figure><img src="/files/1J4FULwdIRFN3djVnRYB" alt=""><figcaption><p>Host Master Server</p></figcaption></figure> <figure><img src="/files/4ZIlEdchkPT4Cwik0Vye" alt=""><figcaption><p>Play Multiplayer</p></figcaption></figure></div>
{% embed url="<https://discord.com/invite/nVdDkgA>" %}
<details>
<summary>Special Remarks</summary>
* With the Unlocker, you’re setting up a master server, but you’ll still need to host the actual game server from within the game itself.
* You can host both your master server and game server even if you’re not connected to any network or don’t have any network adapters.
* <mark style="color:blue;">Host</mark> uses `0.0.0.0` and <mark style="color:blue;">Singleplayer</mark> uses `127.0.0.1`.
**v0.9.7 RC10**
* In-game OpenSpy stats and buddy list are working again (server.ini now stores the FESL address separately).
* Fixed NovGames account creation (now queries the country list and uses the country code if found).
* Partially fixed Unlocker crashes when the FESL server doesn’t respond.
***
**v0.9.7 RC9**
**Technical Changes**
* Downgraded the programming language (GUI wrapper library is deprecated and no longer compiles with the latest version)
* Fixed installation and build steps in the README
* Updated the build script to include new required GTK shared libraries
* Fixed pointer castings to satisfy stricter C compiler rules
**Consumer Changes**
* Removed PlayBF2142 master server from server.ini (no servers listed there anymore)
* Corrected the OpenSpy master server domain in server.ini (fixes login and account creation in BF2142Unlocker)
* Added “Antialiasing: 2 samples” to BF2142Unlocker settings
* Added functionality to overwrite the hosts string inside the BF2142 executable
  * Note: Battlefield 2142 checks on startup whether the IP it’s connecting to is listed in the hosts file. If it is, the game can crash on startup (black screen). Overwriting the hosts string in the BF2142 executable prevents this crash. Special thanks to @Dennie for the analysis and find!
    {% endtab %}
    {% endtabs %}
### Basic Setup
Once you've downloaded the app and lauched it ...
{% hint style="danger" %}
Antivirus tools like Norton may flag some unlocker files as suspicious and quarantine them. Rest assured, the unlocker files are safe. If this happens, restore the files and add the entire unlocker folder to your antivirus exceptions.
{% endhint %}
{% stepper %}
{% step %}
**Set the Game Path**
Select your `Battlefield 2142` folder — usually `C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142`, but it might be different for you.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
**Enable LAA-Patch**
This lets the game use up to 4GB of RAM, which helps prevent crashes.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
**Use Windowed Mode**
Check the <mark style="color:blue;">Window Mode</mark> option and set your screen resolution.
Only switch to fullscreen once you know everything works — windowed mode makes troubleshooting easier.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
**Configure Settings**
Choose the <mark style="color:blue;">Mod</mark> you want to play and set your <mark style="color:blue;">Player name</mark>.&#x20;
Double-check the <mark style="color:blue;">Video</mark>, <mark style="color:blue;">Audio</mark>, and <mark style="color:blue;">HUD</mark> settings — adjust them as needed.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
**Host Master Server**
Click <mark style="color:blue;">Host</mark>.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}
### Windowed Mode Distortion
If the game looks distorted in windowed mode, [enable High DPI Aware](/help-centre/troubleshoot#a01-enable-high-dpi-aware) to fix it.
{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Go to your `Battlefield 2142` folder.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Right-click each `.exe` (`BF2142.exe`, `BF2142Patched.exe`) → <mark style="color:blue;">Properties</mark> → <mark style="color:blue;">Compatibility</mark> → <mark style="color:blue;">Change high DPI settings</mark>.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Check <mark style="color:blue;">Override high DPI scaling behavior</mark> and set it to <mark style="color:blue;">Application</mark>.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Click <mark style="color:blue;">Apply</mark> and <mark style="color:blue;">OK</mark>.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}
### Hosting a Server over LAN or WAN
When you use <mark style="color:blue;">Host</mark> in the unlocker, you’re setting up a master server — but you still need to host the actual game server in-game.
{% hint style="warning" %}
Allow `BF2142.exe`, `BF2142Patched.exe` (in the game folder), and `BF2142Unlocker.exe` (in the Unlocker folder) through both Private and Public networks to avoid connection issues.
<mark style="color:blue;">Control Panel</mark> → <mark style="color:blue;">System and Security</mark> → <mark style="color:blue;">Windows Defender Firewall</mark> → <mark style="color:blue;">Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall</mark>. Add the executables for both network types.
{% endhint %}
{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Follow the steps in [Host a server](/getting-started/host-server) to start your game server.
Make sure you read all the expandable notes — don’t skip any!
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Share your server’s IPv4 address (local or global, depending on your setup) with anyone joining.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Have players enter your server’s IPv4 address in the Unlocker’s <mark style="color:blue;">IP-Address</mark> box, enable <mark style="color:blue;">Auto join server</mark>, then click <mark style="color:blue;">Connect</mark>.&#x20;
This will connect them to your master server and game server in one go.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}
* If BattleDirector fails to start with “See the logfile … for details”, install [Microsoft Visual C++ 2003 Redistributable](/help-centre/troubleshoot#a06-install-microsoft-visual-c-2003-redistributable).
* In-game player animations (e.g., “Thank you” via Q) don’t play back in demos.
* Recording may break (pause/crash) when the host player dies.
* AVIs often only render correctly in Windowed mode; Fullscreen AVIs can be corrupt.
* AVI files over 4GB tend to break rendering. Record via OBS or keep clips small to stay under 4GB.
  * 1520x855 (3.6GB) — working
  * 1744x981 (4.1GB) — not working
# Install the server patch
In this tutorial, we’ll be installing OpenSpy patches to the server client, which lets you host your server on the OpenSpy network — just like we did with the game client. If you’re curious about why this step is necessary, you can find more information [here](/getting-started/apply-openspy-patches).
## Procedures
{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Download the server patch from [Downloads](#downloads).
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Unzip the file to your desktop.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Drag `BF2142_w32ded.exe` from `C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142 Server` (or equivalent) into the unzipped folder on your desktop.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
In the unzipped folder, find `BF2142_Server_Patch.exe`, right-click it, and select <mark style="color:blue;">Run as Administrator</mark>.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
When prompted by <mark style="color:blue;">User Account Control</mark>, click <mark style="color:blue;">Yes</mark> to allow the app to make changes on your device.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Click <mark style="color:blue;">Open & Verify</mark> and select `BF2142_w32ded.exe` in the unzipped folder.
Wait for the Step 1 tick to turn green.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Click <mark style="color:blue;">Patch!</mark> and wait for the Step 2 tick to turn green.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Drag `BF2142_w32ded.exe` back from your desktop folder to `C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142 Server` (or equivalent).
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Next, you’ll use what you’ve just installed to set up and [host a dedicated server](/advanced/dedicated-server/host-dedicated-server).
# Host a dedicated server
This tutorial will guide you through the steps to host a dedicated *unranked* server.
<details>
<summary>Important Notes</summary>
* Port forwarding is only needed if you want your server to be accessible over the internet (WAN), and only the host needs to set it up.
* `BF2142ServerLauncher` does not support mod. That's why you have to run it via a shortcut.
* Modded and unmodded servers read server settings files from different locations.
</details>
### Hosting a Modded Server
In this example, we demonstrate how to host a dedicated server for the [Remaster](/advanced/project-remaster/install-project-remaster) mod.&#x20;
{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Use File Explorer to go to `C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142 Server`.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Copy the folder `Project_Remaster_v14` from `C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\mods` and paste it into `C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142 Server\mods`.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Right-click `BF2142_w32ded.exe` and select <mark style="color:blue;">Send to > Desktop (create shortcut)</mark>.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
On your desktop, right-click the shortcut and choose <mark style="color:blue;">Properties</mark>.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
In the <mark style="color:blue;">Target</mark> field, add `+modPath mods/Project_Remaster_v14` after the path, so it looks like this:
```json
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142 Server\BF2142_w32ded.exe" +modPath mods/Project_Remaster_v14
```
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Click <mark style="color:blue;">Apply</mark> and then <mark style="color:blue;">OK</mark> to confirm.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
In your router’s control panel, forward these ports to your local IP address:
* `29900` UDP or Both
* `17567` Both
  {% endstep %}
{% step %}
Open `C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142 Server\mods\Project_Remaster_v14\Settings\ServerSettings.con` with a text editor.
Note that this is where you tweak your server settings.\
Refer to the list of server settings [here](/advanced/addons-tweaks/server-settings#list-of-server-settings).
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Make sure `sv.internet` is set to 1 and `sv.allowNATNegotiation` is set to 0.\
(Tip: Drag the file to your desktop to edit and save it, then move it back.)
If you don’t want your server to appear in the server browser, set `sv.internet` to 0.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Open `C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142 Server\mods\Project_Remaster_v14\Settings\mapList.con` with a text editor.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Add this line to include a map: `mapList.append Suez_Canal gpm_coop 16`.\
(Again, drag the file to your desktop to edit and save it.)
Refer to [here](https://www.moddb.com/members/antniquiler/blogs/installing-a-battlefield-2142-dedicated-server-on-linux-part-2) to know how to configure the map rotation.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Double-click the shortcut on your desktop to start the server.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}
### Hosting a Vanilla Server
{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Use File Explorer to go to `C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142 Server`.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Find `BF2142ServerLauncher.exe` in the folder and double-click it to open.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Click the <mark style="color:blue;">Add</mark> icon to create a new config setting.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
You can now edit the <mark style="color:blue;">Server Settings</mark> and <mark style="color:blue;">Map List</mark>.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Make sure the <mark style="color:blue;">Internet</mark> option is turned on and <mark style="color:blue;">AllowNATNegotiation</mark> is turned off.
If you don’t want your server to show up in the server browser, leave the <mark style="color:blue;">Internet</mark> option off.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Open `C:\Users\<YOU>\Documents\Battlefield 2142\ServerConfigs.con` with a text editor.
This is where you configure the server apart from using the server launcher.\
Refer to the list of server settings [here](/advanced/addons-tweaks/server-settings#list-of-server-settings).
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
In your router’s control panel, forward these ports to your local IP address:
* `29900` UDP or Both
* `17567` Both
  {% endstep %}
{% step %}
Click <mark style="color:blue;">Start</mark> to launch the server.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}
# BF2142Unlocker v0.9.7 RC7
THIS PAGE IS DEPRECATED.
{% hint style="danger" %}
This page has been archived. Refer to [this page](/advanced/addons-tweaks/bf2142unlocker) for the latest update.
{% endhint %}
Once you’re familiar with the game, you might want to see all server lists, join games quickly, or host your own master server with full unlocks and stats offline. BF2142Unlocker does all this for you — no manual patching needed. Just launch it and use the straightforward interface to join, switch servers, or host games with ease.
<details>
<summary>Something interesting ...</summary>
* With the unlocker, you’re setting up a master server, but you’ll still need to host the actual game server from within the game itself.
* `v0.9.7` lets you host without any network adapters, while `v0.9.4` requires one — even if it’s not connected to the internet.
* Technically, with `v0.9.7`, you can host both your master server and game server even if you’re not connected to any network or don’t have any network adapters.
* In `v0.9.7`, <mark style="color:blue;">Host</mark> uses `0.0.0.0` and <mark style="color:blue;">Singleplayer</mark> uses `127.0.0.1`.
### Basic Setup
Once you've downloaded the app and lauched it ...
{% stepper %}
{% step %}
**Set the Game Path**
Select your Battlefield 2142 folder — usually `C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142`, but it might be different for you.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
**Enable LAA-Patch**
This lets the game use up to 4GB of RAM, which helps prevent crashes.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
**Use Windowed Mode**
Check the <mark style="color:blue;">Window Mode</mark> option and set your screen resolution.
Only switch to fullscreen once you know everything works — windowed mode makes troubleshooting easier.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
**Configure Settings**
Choose the <mark style="color:blue;">Mod</mark> you want to play and set your <mark style="color:blue;">Player name</mark>.&#x20;
Double-check the <mark style="color:blue;">Video</mark>, <mark style="color:blue;">Audio</mark>, and <mark style="color:blue;">HUD</mark> settings — adjust them as needed.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
**Host Master Server**
Click <mark style="color:blue;">Host</mark>.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}
### Play Quick Fix
After clicking <mark style="color:blue;">Host</mark> or <mark style="color:blue;">Singleplayer</mark> under the <mark style="color:blue;">Play</mark> tab ...
**If you :**
* See the game crashes after a black screen
* Don’t see any new messages in the unlocker terminal before the game intro appears
* Get stuck or see popups at the login screen **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-1)[^1]**]**
* See "connection to server lost" at the main menu,
* Or the game crashes immediately after launching a map (not half way through) **\[**[**?**](#user-content-fn-2)[^2]**]**
… it’s very likely something is blocking `127.0.0.1`.&#x20;
{% hint style="info" %}
Dankrad, the creator of the unlocker app, investigated the issue and discovered that the game reads the `hosts` file on startup. It appears the game checks for certain (patched) IP addresses in the `hosts` file and crashes if any are found. This might be one of the major causes behind the black screen crashes we’ve been encountering.
{% endhint %}
**Quick Solution :**
{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Go to `C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc` and open the `hosts` file with a text editor.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Comment out any `127.0.0.1` entries (add `#` at the start of the line).
Comment them out while playing BF2142, and you can always re-enable them later.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Save the file.
If you can’t save, move it to your desktop, edit, then move it back — or open your editor as admin.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}
**Fallback Solution :**
{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Follow [these steps](/getting-started/host-server#do-this-first-disable-any-unused-network-adapters) to disable any network adapters you’re not using.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Click <mark style="color:blue;">Host</mark> in the unlocker.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Close the game window as soon as it appears.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Enter your local IPv4 address (find it with `ipconfig` in `cmd`) in the <mark style="color:blue;">IP-Address</mark> box.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Click <mark style="color:blue;">Connect</mark>.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}
The quick solution uses `127.0.0.1` (no network needed); the fallback connects through your server’s network interface if `127.0.0.1` doesn’t work.
### Multiplayer Quick Fix
You can now play online on any OpenSpy server with the quick fix below:
{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Navigate to `...\BF2142Unlocker_v0.9.7_rc7_win_64bit\bin\config`
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Open `server.ini` with a text editor.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Under the `[OpenSpy]` section, replace:
```batch
stella_prod="http://stella.prod.openspy.net/"
```
with:
```batch
stella_prod="http://bf2142-pc.openspy.net/"
```
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Save the file.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}
### Windowed Mode Distortion
If the game window looks distorted in windowed mode, it’s probably due to Windows display scaling.
{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Go to your game folder.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Right-click each `.exe` (`BF2142.exe`, `BF2142Patched.exe`, `BF2142Unlocker.exe`) → <mark style="color:blue;">Properties</mark> → <mark style="color:blue;">Compatibility</mark> → <mark style="color:blue;">Change high DPI settings</mark>.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Check <mark style="color:blue;">Override high DPI scaling behavior</mark> and set it to <mark style="color:blue;">Application</mark>.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Click <mark style="color:blue;">Apply</mark> and <mark style="color:blue;">OK</mark>.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}
### Hosting an Externally Accessible Server
When you use <mark style="color:blue;">Host</mark> in the unlocker, you’re setting up a master server — but you still need to host the actual game server in-game.
{% stepper %}
{% step %}
Follow the [Host a server](/getting-started/host-server) steps to start your game server.
Make sure you read all the expandable notes — don’t skip any!
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Share your server’s IPv4 address (local or global, depending on your setup) with anyone joining.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Have players enter your server’s IPv4 address in the unlocker’s <mark style="color:blue;">IP-Address</mark> box and click <mark style="color:blue;">Connect</mark>. This connects them to your master server.
{% endstep %}
{% step %}
Follow the [Play multiplayer](/getting-started/play-multiplayer) steps to join the game server.&#x20;
To skip searching the server list, enable <mark style="color:blue;">Auto join server</mark> before clicking <mark style="color:blue;">Connect</mark>. This will connect your players directly to your game server.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}
[^1]: You shouldn’t even see the login screen — if it appears, something went wrong with the setup.
[^2]: If it still persists after deleting the cache, something went wrong with loading the unlocks.
